Who I am

The Still Side is the creative vision of 15-year-old photographer and athlete, Alexander N. Hunter—a rising talent who’s capturing the world one frame at a time.

About Me

What began as a spark in a high school photography class quickly evolved into a passion project fueled by curiosity, hustle, and heart. From winning awards to shooting major league sports, Alexander’s lens reflects more than just images—it captures emotion, movement, and meaning.

Launched in 2025, The Still Side is Alexander’s official foray into photography as both art and business. Whether he's documenting the energy of a city, the emotion of his subjects, or the intensity of live sports, Alexander brings a rare stillness and sharp eye to fast-moving moments. Through The Still Side, he hopes to continue telling powerful stories and inspiring others to see the world differently—one photograph at a time.

Hi, I’m

Alexander N. Hunter

A 15-year-old athlete, creative, and someone who’s recently discovered a passion that truly lights me up: photography.

I’m a rising sophomore at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools, where I’ve been fortunate to grow both on the field and behind the camera. As a six-time Junior Olympian, I once held the #1 ranking in Region 7 for both shot put and discus, and this year, I broke my school’s discus record and helped lead our team to its first-ever Sectional Championship title. Representing U-High at the State Championships was a huge honor, but something else has recently captured my focus in a whole new way.

I found photography during a freshman-year class—and from the moment I picked up the camera, I was hooked. I started experimenting on my own, often staying up late to explore the city through my lens. One of those late-night shots—a photo of the L train—was selected for the ArtConnected Northern Illinois Regional Art Exhibition, where it won a bronze medal. That moment showed me what’s possible when you follow your curiosity

Telling Stories

That Matter Through the Lens

Since then, I’ve been all in. I was one of 12 students chosen (out of more than 60 applicants) for the Fresh Lens Summer Photography Program, where I’ve been learning even more about the art and craft of image-making. In January, I landed my first paid commission, capturing The Four Virtues: Boy, Wonder at the Evanston Art Center—an exhibit that explored the beauty, complexity, and quiet strength of Black boyhood. It was powerful to be part of a project like that and realize how photography can tell stories that matter.

From the Field to the Frame

A Journey of Passion and Purpose

Most recently, I had the incredible opportunity to shoot a Chicago White Sox game with official media credentials—an experience I’ll never forget.

In August 2025, I was honored to receive a Young Entrepreneur Award in recognition of my photography work and creative business vision. That moment made me even more excited to keep growing—both as an artist and an entrepreneur. I’m currently taking entrepreneurship workshops and excited to have officially launched my photography business.

Whether I’m on the field or behind the lens, I bring focus, heart, and a deep love for what I do. Thanks for following along as I chase this passion—I can’t wait to see where it takes me.
